About Melissa Blatnik
I was born and raised in Colorado. I lived on the Western slope for over 20 years and then moved to Northern Colorado in 2004. I found my love for psychology when I took a psychology class in high school, and I am still passionate about learning and helping people.
I have a beautiful blended family. I have been with my husband for 16 years and have a 23 year old bonus daughter and an 19 year old daughter. I have been so lucky to have their love and support through my journey of continued education and working towards my dream of starting my private practice.
I have been working in the field of counseling for 15 years. My experience ranges from working in a community mental health setting with clients that are primarily struggling with addictions and crisis situations to a private practice model with people that I have joined on their journey for more traditional long-term counseling with populations that includes: adolescents, adults, couples and families
I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado.
My certifications include: Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), brainspotting and somatic processing.
My specialty areas include: drug and alcohol counseling, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of counseling and healing. It is important to me that those that I work with feel safe and comfortable enough to allow me to accompany them on their journey of healing.
I have always felt that helping others comes very natural to me. I have been told that I have a calm demeanor and a supportive way of working with difficult situations.
What I love most about counseling is providing hope to people that can’t find it. To see the spark in individuals’ eyes when they realize they have the strength within themselves to grow. To be able to give a different perspective. Overall, people are my passion and I am here to help!
